OUR TOP 10 WINES OF 2014
We've tasted a lot of wine the past year, from a fifteen dollar Cava to a Bordeaux First Growth priced over a thousand dollars. Here's our TOP 10 WINES of 2014, which is by no means a definitive list, as wine tasting is so subjective and we did not sample the whole world of wine. Rather, we'd like to think of these particular bottles as our most memorable wine experiences of the past year. And, of course, we wouldn't hesitate to partake in these wines next year either!
10. Peirson Meyer - Chardonnay - 2012
Aromas: aslmonds, creamy and toasty oak.
Great balance. Elegant and sophisticated -definitely one to remember!

9. Collide - Mark Herold Wines -2011
Aromas: blackberries, spices and licorice.
What a steal for the price! Blend of tempranillo, graciano, carignan and petit syrah. Tastes almost like Cali Cab chemistry at a very high level. Bravo, Monsieur Herold!

8. Joseph Swan- Ritchie Vineyard - Chardonnay -2011
Aromas: almonds, peaches, honey and herbal notes.
Almost oily - this Chardonnay has an impressive finish. A real treat!

7. Victoria # 2 - Jorge Ordonez - 2013
Aromas: rose, orange, honey and toffee.
Perfect balance - Voluptuous long finish.
Similar in flavors to some Gewurztraminers from Alsace - delightful moscatel!

6. Domaine Pelle - Les Blanchais - 2013
Aromas: citrus, apples and pears.
Well structured and complex body. AOC Menetou-Salon, which is 15 miles from Sancerre, delivers the same quality of sauvignon blanc as its star neighbor. Explosive in citrus and worth a try!

3. At the Movies - Behrens Family -2011
Aromas: blackberries, black licorice and spices.
We've never been deceived by the Behrens Family wines and ''At the Movies'' is no exception to the rule. Blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot, this small production wine (3000 btl) is perfectly balanced and full of character. Let it breathe and you will be amazed!

Another success for winemaker Helen Turley. Structure is so unique and body well balanced. Aromas are very distinct and make this wine memorable.

1. Cuvée Constance - Domaine Huet - 2003
Aromas: gingerbread, coffee, honey and cream.
Complex and beautiful structure. One of the greatest botrytized dessert wine we have tried. So easy to drink with an endless finish close to perfection.
To make it short: LOVE in a bottle! If there is one wine that we will take with us on a desert island this year - this is it!
To drink until 2050.
Price: do not expect to pay less than $150 at retail.
